Shoprite Asaba in its final construction phase |
Barely 2 years after the groundbreaking ceremony of Shoprite Asaba, everything has been put in place for the formal opening of its doors for business. Leisure Quest has been authoritatively informed that residents of Asaba and environs should expect to walk through the doors of the gigantic infrastructure that promises to avail them of quality goods and products at the best available prices.
Indeed many people living in the city of Asaba have been whispering on how the commissioning of shoprite mall will become a major challenge to two other mini malls/supermarkets that have been enjoying immense patronage within the same Core Area part of town.
Shoprite Nigeria is the Nigerian subsidiary of Shoprite Holdings Ltd, a South African retail firm established in 1979 by South African Billionaire Mr Christo Wiese.
The company is the largest retail chain in Africa, with subsidiaries
in Namibia, Zambia, Uganda, Botswana, Mozambique, Madagascar, Angola,
Congo DR, Ghana, Congo, Swaziland, Lesotho, Mauritius, and other African
countries. The company also owns a number of franchising brands through
its OK Franchise Division. These include OK Foods, OK Grocer, Sentra,
Enjoy, etc.
Shoprite began operations in Nigeria in 2005, opening its first store in
Victoria Island, Lagos. The company has since spread its tentacles to
many other Nigerian cities including Abuja, Onitsha, Enugu, Ilorin,
Kano, Ibadan, and others. In August 2015, Shoprite announced its plans
to open 14 new stores in Nigeria over the next 20 months. Asaba happens to have one of the best built Structures among the 14 new stores earlier mentioned. Word of advice, if you are ready for your Christmas shopping and you live in Asaba, please wait for a few more days, lol.
